"Desire is a contract that you make with yourself to be unhappy until you get what you want." — Naval Ravikant
Is your desire driving you forward or holding you back? Often, we think success means constantly chasing more, but what if you’re delaying happiness in the process?
High performers understand that peace and productivity can coexist. Are you enjoying the journey, or are you postponing fulfilment?
Often, we find ourselves focusing on an end goal; when we finally arrive there, we realise it was the journey, that had the true fulfilment after all.
Be careful of desire.
The Nasal Breathing Advantage 💨
Ever thought about how you breathe?
Most of us don’t…
According to James Nestor, improper breathing—especially mouth breathing—is affecting our health in ways we don’t realise. From ADHD and diabetes to chronic illness in children, mouth breathing is linked to serious health issues. So, why should you switch to nasal breathing?
Why Is Nasal Breathing Superior? 🤔
Mouth breathing might feel normal, but nasal breathing is much more beneficial. Here’s why:
Better oxygenation: Nasal breathing boosts nitric oxide production, which dilates blood vessels and improves circulation, delivering more oxygen to your brain and muscles. It’s a more efficient way to breathe, boosting endurance and focus.
Improves sleep: A Stanford experiment found that 10 days of mouth breathing caused snoring, sleep apnoea, and daytime fatigue. Nasal breathing, on the other hand, leads to deeper, more restorative sleep and better recovery.
Stronger immunity: The nose acts as a natural filter, trapping viruses and bacteria before they reach your lungs. Mouth breathing bypasses this, increasing the risk of respiratory infections.
Can Nasal Breathing Affect Facial Development? 😲
Yes! How you breathe can impact your facial structure. Mouth breathing during childhood leads to underdeveloped facial bones and smaller airways, causing long-term breathing problems. Nestor points out that modern diets of soft, processed foods make this worse by reducing the need for chewing, which weakens jaw muscles.
What Did the Stanford Experiment Show? 🔬
A Stanford University study revealed the drastic differences between mouth and nasal breathing:
Mouth breathing phase: Participants experienced snoring, sleep apnoea, and extreme fatigue after just 10 days of mouth breathing. Their health and sleep took a serious hit.
Nasal breathing phase: When participants switched to nasal breathing, their sleep improved, snoring reduced, and energy levels increased. The benefits were undeniable.
Why Do We Even Breathe Through Our Mouths If It’s So Bad? 🧐
Mouth breathing is a backup for when your nasal passages are blocked. But in normal circumstances, nasal breathing is far better. It filters, warms, and humidifies the air, protecting your lungs and improving oxygen intake.
Six times more nitric oxide: Nasal breathing produces much more nitric oxide than mouth breathing, which helps kill viruses and bacteria before they enter your system.
